![]() ![]() I don't think we should put too much stock into these award shows though. I do think HL Alyx got shafted for overall GotY awards in TGA, but it did get nominations for other awards there. Doom Eternal, Ghost of Tsushima, and TLOU2 would all be considered "forgotten" if we're applying the same logic, and those games clearly aren't forgotten. By the same logic, lots of big games from this year are "forgotten". I see a lot of people have a similar take about HLA, but those people all have a strange definition of "forgotten". Half-Life: Alyx is an easy GOTY choice for me. Clearly, CRPGs are too niche to be taken seriously. This is the same awards show that gave it to Dragon Age: Inquisition over Divinity: Original Sin. This is the same awards show couldn't nominate Disco Elysium for GOTY. I understand why it's not discussed a lot here, as I already pointed out, but any recognition on quality should have no bearing on popularity or accessibility. It lived up to previous entries, it innovated and pushed the envelope forward as the others did, and the story revelations are crucial to any subsequent entry. For a lot of those people this is their Super Mario 64 moment for VR. ![]() The Valve Index is still in the Top 10 Steam sellers after all this time. It was the reason a lot of people bought VR headsets within the past year, and still do. ![]() Imagine a forum that regularly ignores PC-centric games, that often has disdain for VR, that cites an awards process that strongly favors popular mainstream titles, and then acts surprised at this perceived Half-Life: Alyx whimper. ![]()
